Arizona
Arizona became a state in 1912 as the 48th state. Physically it is noted for its desert basin and range regions to the south. The state is less well known for its pine-covered north-central portion of the high country of the Colorado Plateau. Its most famous feature, the Grand Canyon is a colorful, deep, steep-sided gorge, carved by the Colorado River.
